Swedish Massage
is what most people’s understanding of massage involves. Working the soft tissue, Swedish Massage uses a combination of five basic strokes, appled with different amounts of pressure and timing. Soft tissue includes the skin, fascia, ligaments and muscles of the body. When stressed or injured, these tissues can contract, tighten, or become thick and unmoving. Swedish massage works to loosen and relax these areas. Statistics suggest that Stress is a leading factor of many disorders and maladies today. Regular massage is an effective way to help maintain a relaxed state and soften the tissue; bringing the body to a natural state of ease.
Reflexology
is a holistic bodywork technique in which nerve reflexes are accessed through the feet. These nerve reflexes correspond with other body structures as well as internal organs. Applying pressure to a certain area of the foot stimulates the reflex, helping the body to achieve harmony and balance. Reflexology is applied systematically to each foot, working the energy reflexes to help relax the feet and lower leg. A Reflexologist does not diagnose or treat illness, but by applying pressure to the specific energy pathways, helps the body to return to its natural state of balance.
Cranio-Sacral
therapy is a gentle, delicate work where the therapist uses just the slightest amount of pressure. Anatomically, this system includes the brain, cranial bones, spinal cord, sacrum, the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) and the dura mater, in which the CSF is contained. By noting the movement and working to release restrictions in the Cranio-Sacral system, a practitioner can enhance the function of the nervous system. Effective in treating the bodily dysfunctions associated with pain and discomfort, Cranio-Sacral therapy is a wonderful adjunct therapy, working with the body’s immune system as well, to affect change and bring about balance.
Baby’s First Massage
teaches the family or caregiver how to massage their healthy newborn, or sometimes even the medically stable pre-term infant. Developmental research has shown that newborns greatly benefit from receiving a simple massage daily. The benefits to the newborn include help with elimination and digestion, increased weight gain, improved immune function and deeper and more restful sleep. Additional information will be shared about the benefits, early infant communication, interpreting the infant’s cries, and ways to comfort the baby.
Chair massage
is an accessible way of bringing the benefits of massage into the work setting. Using a special chair developed to allow maximum exposure to places most often holding stress, the massage therapist works to bring relief to those tired, aching muscles. There is little need for special accommodations as clients remain fully clothed and in an upright position. In as little as fifteen minutes employees can be back on the job, refreshed and ready to go. Stress is a prevalent factor in absenteeism, shifts in attitude and performance. Massage is a great stress reliever, increases energy, allows people to heal more quickly and promotes more restful sleep.
